Footy Legends Tee Off For Women's Hospital
On Tuesday 11 May, 2010 The VFL (Virtually Forgotten Legends) Club hosted their annual Charity Golf Day at Australia’s #1 golf course, Kingston Heath (home of the Australian Masters) and this year united to help raise much-needed funds for the Royal Women’s Hospital.
Monies raised from the day will help with the equipment and research needs for the Women’s Neonatal Intensive and Special Care (NISC) service. The Women’s NISC nurseries provide comprehensive care for unwell and premature babies that have been transferred from other hospitals or have been born at the Women’s, one of Victoria’s leading tertiary hospitals for at risk pregnancies. The NISC has an internationally recognised research program assessing many neonatal problems and studying the long term outcomes for premature babies.
Many past players and, sporting legends and sporting personalities were keen to lend their support. They included; Shane Zantuck (Melbourne), Robert Flower (Melbourne), Brett Grimley (Fitzroy), Greg Wells (Melbourne and Carlton), Mark Dawson (North Melbourne), Steven Febey (Melbourne), Sean White (Melbourne), Wayne Richardson (Collingwood), Kerry Goode (North Melbourne), Peter McConville (Carlton), Stewart Gull (South Melbourne), Michael Roberts (St Kilda), Kayne Pettifer, Damien Fleming (ex Australian Cricketer), Sam Newman (Channel 9) , Tommy Hafey (Richdmond), Mike Shehan (Herald Sun) Cam McGlinchy (Rogue Traders), Ray Ball (Richmond) …just to name a few
"The Women’s is delighted to be the beneficiary of this terrific day," says Dr Sarah White, Director of the Royal Women’s Hospital Foundation. "We are tremendously appreciative of the VFL Club's generous support of the Royal Women's Hospital's research and services. And I know the Neonatal Intensive and Special Care service team is very grateful to the efforts of these not-at-all forgotten legends."
The golf day is an integral part of the VFL Club’s fundraising calendar and the Foundation is proud to be donating proceeds from the day.
